The term ‘agriculture’ refers to the cultivation and nurturing of plants, animals and other forms of life for the manufacture and production of food, fuels, drugs and other similar uses. A bright phase in the history of global agriculture was brought in by the ‘Green Revolution’ that led to research and development into agriculture, along with the transfer of technology. The major categories of food production that are derived from agriculture include vegetables, fruits, meat and poultry, milk and milk products. One of the most important forms of modern agricultural methods includes industrial farming of crops, poultry, fish and so on.

Global agriculture faces multiple challenges these days, mainly due to the shrinking rural labor force and the needs of an ever-growing population. However, the bio-energy segment, a major focus area for ministries of agriculture in countries around the world, has contributed significantly to improve the prospects of the global agricultural industry. Along with developed regions such as the United States, emerging markets such as China are also displaying an increasing trend of improvement in agriculture.
