The healthcare segment has expanded at a rapid pace in recent years, mainly due to a shift in trend towards lifestyle-related diseases, along with increase in disposable income in the hands of the global population. At any point of time, the healthcare sector remains one of the biggest contributors to the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and is also a significant employment generator.

The healthcare sector has significant prospects, particularly in emerging nations where there are high levels of malnutrition, infant mortality rates and poor sanitation and drinking water facilities. However, in these regions, cash-strapped governments are sometimes unable to allocate a major amount of money towards healthcare expenditure, which again leads to poor standards of public healthcare. This is one of the major reasons why a significant section of the population in emerging regions depends on private healthcare facilities.
